Hi Everyone,
I'm Melanie. I am a wife, mother, and teacher. I have been married to my sweet husband for 22 years, and we have three wonderful children. I enjoy painting, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. And even though I would not sit still long enough to read a book as a child, the Lord has given me an abiding and robust love for Literature.
After earning a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Tennesee, Knoxville, I have taught English to students from third grade through high school for over twenty years. The majority of these years have been with middle schoolers, whose company I enjoy because of their sense of humor and their growing interest in the issues of life. I have taught in public, private, and homeschool environments. These experiences have shaped and molded my philosophy as a teacher.
I believe reading great books and engaging in thoughtful conversations about the universal ideas woven into them are essential to an education and to a good life. From Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Julius Caesar, hidden treasures lie in every great novel which, ultimately, draw us to ponder the many facets of what it means to be human. Through this process, my hope is that we begin to see that we are imperfect creatures in need of a perfect Creator to come and rescue us. It is through knowing and pursuing a relationship with Jesus Christ that I continue to have the joy of being a student and the purpose for being a teacher.
